About Me

Dave Betty
I have been painting casually for about 10 years but became more serious about 4 years ago. Since then I have attended workshops by many famous watercolour artists in an attempt to improve my painting techniques. The artists I have been on workshops with include the widely acclaimed Joseph Zbukvic, Alvaro Castagnet, Hazel Soan, Ray Balkwill and recently David Taylor. Like many other watercolour painters I have my good days and my bad days - watercolours are not easy to do and you only get one chance at doing them, unlike acrylics or oils where you can take your time and correct them at leisure. To paint watercolours well you need to paint them quickly but with an end view in your head, so a bit of forward planning is necessary. Good technique and sound basics are important but of course you need a bit of talent as well. Sadly, I think this is where I fall down as I don't have a natural artistic flair. I also struggle to simplify but I keep trying. I hope you enjoy my attempts at this difficult medium. Older posts are available at the bottom of the page.
